Michele Bachmann: homophobe-in-chief? | Paul Harris

As the belt moves Tea Party to the Republican candidate for president, his horrible anti-gay record deserves exposure

Given the excitement surrounding the explosion of the White House has Rep. Michele Bachmann, was perhaps not surprising that the organizers of a conference of conservative bloggers Minneapolis ", in line with Weekend has chosen to present their infuriating catchy song Katy Perry "Firework".

Bachmann is now a rock star really hard for the Republican right and faithful Tea Party. However, the song choice showed a profound ignorance of popular culture. Fireworks - whatever you think of their musical merits - it's a gay anthem. Perry filmed the video to go with it preaches a message of universal tolerance and has a happy young man agreed with his sexuality and kissing another man. It is, to put it mildly, it is ironic Bachmann and his legion of supporters.

For Bachmann is certainly a leading candidate for most anti-gay as a candidate in the White House in recent years. A look at the record shows Bachmann gay issues much of his political philosophy and personal beliefs are based on the preaching of prejudice against a vulnerable minority of the U.S. population. (One of the members of this community has made his protest against the "light of the bombing," as he left the law Bachmann online.) America has come a long way from segregation George Wallace first ran for president in 1964. But changing the black homosexuals by some commentators, Bachmann and shows that some politicians have achieved far less than others.

Bachmann has fought for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in Minnesota. This in itself is not too unusual. But what is unusual is the fervor of anti-gay agenda Bachmann. His position does not seem cynical policy at its base. Seems rooted in his evangelical beliefs and religious views. Bachmann, after all, once hidden behind bushes to keep an eye on a gay parade in Washington, DC. In another notorious incident when he was approached by two lesbians in the bath of Bachmann speaking anti-gay views, the MP said she had been kidnapped and fled to the police to try to load (the authorities took a dim view of the complaint and declined to pursue the case). In 2004 he was called to be gay "Satan". In the same year, he also compared it to slavery, saying:

"If you are involved in the lives of gays and lesbians, which is slavery. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal slavery."

Marcus Bachmann denied that he teaches are trying to "cure" people of homosexuality. But in 2005, spoke at a conference, and this according to a gay activist, ended his presentation with the testimony of three people who said they were "cured" of his homosexuality and right now. His speech was called "The truth about the homosexual agenda."

But what really scared of Bachmann anti-gay beliefs are the way they ran their own family life. Some conservatives major such as former Vice President Dick Cheney, have softened their positions and embraced gay rights, because they are proud members and their families. This week the New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser set aside his normally strident conservatism to write a moving tribute to the wedding of a lesbian favorite niece. However, Bachmann remains rigid, even when members of his family is gay.
Bachmann sister, Helen Lefave is a lesbian. The two were close, as they grew up together in adolescence. Not surprisingly, Bachmann homophobic comments did not go well with it, or several other family members. They wrote letters to newspapers or to the opposite position Bachmann appeared on the hearings in the political attempts to ban gay marriage. However, even in the face of having gay parents in his own family, Bachmann is unwavering. Surely that's what many of his fans on his love.
