Michael Bukhta (obituary, August 8th) had his first great triumph with the release of Capital Radio, the control program that. In 1973, the capital, broadcasting, in London, was the first "music and entertainment," independent local radio stations. He set the standard for what the independent radio stations (which was never allowed to call it "commercial" - also Left) could reach

Michael has always believed that radio could be used as a "fulcrum for change" with the power station used to help the community it serves. From the day he joined in September 1973, we asked DJ novice to think how we relate to our listeners (one of its broadcasting laws in the air that there was more than ever

listener was talking to) and help serve the community. I had the idea of ??a service action plans, with listeners who were looking for participants in touch with those seeking apartments. Michael loved: he was in the air on the first day, and survived for over 13 years I was there. Also on the first day, Tommy Vance and Joan Shenton opened Swap Shop, where they share everything from cars to washing machines, and was an immediate success. Then came the capital of the job seeker, help a child in London and the hotline capital, which lasted 24 hours a day - every first of every radio station in the UK

In terms of programming, Michael was the vision of a comprehensive radio service. It is unthinkable today, but in 1973 we had a Department of negotiations with interviews and documentaries, a daily soap, a program of classical music, rock my show, a children's show, a show for older listeners with music of the 1940s, 50, a phone in every day of the agony aunt Anna Raeburn, a program of jazz, soul, show Greg Edwards, an athletic department and Roger Scott "popular choice", giving listeners the can select a track to be presented during the week. Virtually every show was direct.

Michael had two main rules for those of us lucky enough to work with him: "Tell the truth" and "being real". He did, went, and we will miss him.

Simon Albury, writes:

In 1969, 24 hours, every night now for the precursor BBC Newsnight, has recruited a large number of young people not live "what they were doing. Bukhta Michael was editor of the day. Unlike some of his peers, his supreme confidence that allowed him to take the incompetence in its wake.
