budget cuts threaten to close the body of the youth theater, denying opportunities for children and inspiration. A new campaign aims to help
tunnels I ventured to Old Vic in London last week for the first time to see a new version of Orpheus and Eurydice in the National Youth Theatre. The material was superb - bewitching, captivating, and filled with excellent vocal performances. This was done by a cast of teenagers and young adults is all the more exciting and reminded me, as Charlotte Higgins wrote in his blog recently how powerful it can be a youth theater.
also made me think of a campaign by the National Association of Youth Theatres (NAYT) due to the release, if all goes as planned, in mid-September. It is a noble cause that has profound implications for both the theater and local communities. Mark Rylance, Julian Fellowes, Fernando Arrabal, David Suchet, Zoe Wanamaker, Tamzin Outhwaite, Victoria Wood and Miranda Hart have already agreed to support it. The list is sure to grow in the time of its official release.
The campaign, called I Heart Youth Theatre - ignore the sweet name - is not only to raise the profile of youth theater, but also to gain support for NAYT, who after 12 years as an organization funded regular , has lost its Department of Education and the Arts Council England support. The body desperately needs to be supported groups before December, if it is unable to raise at least £ 100,000 by then, it can not survive
NAYTclosures would be a blow to the area of ??youth theater because it supports the work of 1,300 groups across the country, which in turn will reach about 65 000 young people. Of course, one could argue that the body does not directly provide the activities youth theater in the day to day, so I kept the theater closed to all young people.
