US education orientation for minorities: the school-to-prison pipeline | Sadhbh Walshe

When six years crises is handcuffed and detained by police, something is very wrong with the system

Back in April of this year, a child of six years, African-American girl named Salecia Johnson had a tantrum at school, Creekside Elementary Milledgeville, Georgia. By all accounts, this is a pretty intense crisis that many of those involved screaming and crying, and apparently also involved damage that the child "was seen biting the button on the office door and jump in the shredder. "Thus, the main fact that you do when a child of six years, lost the plot: she called the police, who arrived duly handcuffed" young rebel "and dragged her out of prison populations local where he remained in a holding cell until his parents could not be reached.

Salecia was released without charge and, finally, on this occasion, escaped criminal, but apparently was traumatized by the incident and later told reporters that "evil" date with handcuffs.

This should be the point where I tell you all this is a joke or a fantasy scenario of what could happen if the schools of our country, especially in schools where there are a large number of minority students, the course has been reduced by using crazy criminal justice system to enforce discipline or solve behavior problems of children. But, unfortunately, the incident really happened, not only, but it is also emblematic of a growing trend that has been called the "school to prison." Despite overwhelming evidence that send their children to prison life has negative consequences for them, schools choose to do so. And while in the past, most children who are caught in this trend were a little longer layer Salecia been thinking now seems to be If you put someone on the path to a life in and out of prison, you might as well start up the youth.

Addiction

According to reports, most of the time these black children, mostly poor end up in prison for crimes as varied as dress code violations, truancy, irreverence and disrespect. It is no less sinister than minority children would be sent to prison for track driving, which is a fairly standard grow. At school he attended as a teenager, an all-girls, predominantly white school convent, dedicated to "criminal" behavior similar to the land of the children in Mississippi and elsewhere in jail. Dress code violations that wearing socks instead of socks or t-shirts instead of the desired key until blouses were commonplace, talk back or out of turn and truancy were the agenda, and even semi-serious offenses such as smoking cigarettes or vodka hidden in the classroom in a jar are not unknown - but I plead the fifth on all of the foregoing. However, the religious blessing, was able to cope with all these "crimes" and offenses without having to call the police or send someone to prison.
