Illinois Republican primary: panel view

Mitt Romney is the clear favorite in Chicago, the land, but can Rick Santorum, the conservative forces in southern Illinois?

Pierce: "Rick Santorum has generated some momentum"

Clay County, Illinois

- Rasmussen, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum leading nine points in Illinois. This shows a clear advantage for Romney in this blue state, but I do not think Romney's campaign should not be too impressed with his effort. The state, which is dominated by Chicago and Barack Obama has sent to the Senate of the United States, should be an easy win for the more liberal or "moderate" candidate in the race. The slam-dunk for Romney has become a must for long-term efforts of Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford and Republican support to the observers referred to as the "establishment".

Why not take greater advantage of Romney in this state is blue? Why is your campaign forced to program multiple stops during the two days before the vote on Tuesday? It seems that Rick Santorum has generated some momentum and the Romney campaign has seen the need to respond, or risk losing what should have been a no contest.

stops at the end of the campaign in Illinois could be overshadowed by the response of the other Romney campaign to increase Santorum, the annoying robocall. I am not a political strategist, but it is difficult to imagine that voters no longer react negatively to the campaign to make calls that are the subject of calls once the call volume reaches a certain number. Several calls a day, even in rural southern Illinois, which seems to be a sign of desperation.

The feeling in southern Illinois, looks uneven, with some support for Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich for some, and some of Santorum. If Romney has the support does not appear to extend beyond those who are elected Republican office holders. Factor X is regrettable is the apathy that embodies most of the electorate. Too many citizens of voting age do not even know the names of most candidates, or anything about them beyond the ads.

Aa apathy and ignorance

can become a friend of Romney's campaign on Tuesday. If this is the case, it can also lead to benefit the Obama campaign in November.

Fran Eaton: "The Republicans offer little when it comes to" bold new ideas

southwest Cook County, Illinois

- The part of Cook County which is southwest of Chicago is a mix of professionals white collar and blue-collar businessmen who work very hard to pay their mortgages and taxes, as well as filling your mini-van and SUV gas tanks. Children and schools are the center of most communities, while the Catholic and Evangelical churches provide meeting places on Sunday. The issue of employment and the economy dominates most political discourse, followed by the increasing burden of taxes on property and income, higher claims costs for energy and health of fear.

Republicans used to dominate the southwest suburbs, but over the years, as union members and professionals more business owners, the Democrats won the field. However, there is an attachment to tradition, the family and the influence of the Church in both. Anti-establishment movements are shaped City Council's public calls and angry protests organized. People are concerned about their staff and the children's future. They are individualists and reject government intrusion. They push for freedom and liberty.

The Tea Party movement launched several networks for free, in the region, but for most, politics is too confusing and unpleasant to spend time on. Children are waiting for dinner and to collect, the head of my husband needs to stay overtime, the neighbors dog barks too long and too often, and food and fuel are stealing all hope of a new pair of shoes to Johnnie this month.

hope President Obama and change message has shot here. His vision of a better America was different than theirs. However, the Republicans offer little when it comes to bold new ideas. They are too focused on the spots with each other and elbowing their way in front. This is a huge production and put a wet blanket on all the enthusiasm that erupted unexpectedly here.

selection that Republicans would be better than talking short, eloquent and hopeful ready to go. It will be a long hot summer in Illinois and in the southwest suburbs, and a message GOP opponent, Barack Obama, could resonate here.

Matt Gauntt: "The favorite has just tried to act prudently"

Kane County, Illinois - Two months ago, few expected that the development of republican presidential primary to shine in the State of Illinois. With all the excitement, the collective response of the Illinois primary voters was ...

Yawn.

Apart from one or two high-profile meetings, there is little evidence that voters in Illinois are on and connected to the race.

along the western suburbs, early voting is significantly less than in previous years. My observation is that voters have stagnated because they are still undecided - and I do not blame them. The leading candidate has just tried to act prudently, and the second candidate is a strong social conservative, but showed little resistance to large expenditures in the past.

Is it too late to demand a Mulligan?
