The end of feminism, or, how I learned to stop worrying and wear lipstick | Julie Bindel

A glimpse of Julie Bindel

speech was developed to commemorate the World Day of femininity, on Saturday, June 24

Thank you for inviting me to speak to you all to attend the World Day of femininity (DMA). I admit I was surprised to be asked. Since I am a lesbian and feminist who believes that femininity is a social construct and that there is that women can be considered as the "fairer" sex and be judged as less able than and the rational men, it may seem strange that I'm here at all.

Zoe Charles, the founder of the radical movement, is a burlesque and female coach. As we know now, the definition of feminism has recently expanded a bit and can now include the celebration of misogyny invention "bitch", the practice of women to change the surname of her husband, to make cakes. How things change! When I cut my teeth feminists understood that the women's liberation movement (WLM) is to overthrow male supremacy and equality and freedom for women.

at this stage, to admit that my kind of feminism has failed. After 30 years strange campaign to end all forms of violence against women and children, the statistics remain grim. It is still the case that two women die every week in the hand of a partner or former rape is endemic and almost successfully treated, and abused women in the sex industry are considered disposable. Therefore, taking into account the commitment of the DMA to stop such abuses (we say no to the exploitation of women and children, the event this year is to raise awareness of the event DMA 2012, collecting funds for charitable organizations involved in combating the exploitation of women. and children around the world), I will ride and accept that instead of telling men to mistreat women, it would be much better if we inclined them and made the effort to be kind, gentle and modest. Perhaps then, it will be better for us.

So in closing, thank you for asking me to address you today on this happy occasion. I will go by a department store, where I will have a complete makeover - nails, hair, makeup and dress. I will take lessons from behavior and my diction teacher teach me to talk a little shyly and quietly so that men understand that I'm not trying to compete with them. Forget feminism - femininity is definitely the way forward
