The Royal Society, UK National Academy of Sciences, is inviting after school reading groups and science clubs, youth clubs, books and other youth groups interested helping to select the winner of the People of 2012, the Royal Society Book Prize for Young. This award honors the best books that communicate science to young people under 14. These books are either real or fictional stories intended to make science exciting for children. A selection panel of adult judges from the list of six finalists in the recently published books that communicate science to young people. After this list was chosen, youth groups will be invited to talk about books and collectively select the winner. Participation is open to any youth group that is able to read, discuss the list and recommend their choice so that you should win.
AA groups
young people selected will receive a complete set of six shortlisted books to read and discuss before voting for their favorite book. The votes of each group will be sent to the Royal Society, to be aware of them and announce the winner at the end of 2012. Sixty-five groups will be selected to receive a complete set of books in the running for free, but if your group is not selected to receive a set of books, you can still participate if you can buy books yourself.
Applications must be received by Monday, April 30, 2012. Learn more about the rules for participating in this award.
