On Landguard Point: the east of England acts up

flag raising

play the dulcimer, the scarecrow-making to impersonate Elvis, professionals and amateurs working together in a giant piece of the arts community

This month, Pacitti Company presents a series of demonstrations in front of the audience and for people living in the East of England. There will, among other things: an increase in unusual flag in ceremonies around the coast of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, a ritual of power during the night of Dunwich Heath made by a group of dancers spinning trance and local dulcimer players, a group of 20 non-professional artists, including two tap dancers, a junior high and an Elvis impersonator, do their thing in Clacton pier and the scarecrow-making in the Museum of East Anglian Life

The project is called Landguard Point and one of the artists take the initiative - a great job in the heart of the Cultural Olympiad London 2012. Named after the location of Landguard Fort, home of the last successful defense of England in 1666. Landguard Point explores the notions of origin, trade and defense of the six counties that form the East of England (Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex), which has totally changed my terms not only of how, but why make art.

It seeks to challenge the experts on a large scale cultural production. Have you always been artists, curators, producers and technicians that make cultural activity occur? Why not enthusiastic fans, children, elderly, even the general public think it goes too? I spent the last two years, the connection with people from all walks of life who can clearly demonstrate that.

Landguard Point

is done with the highest production values ??and resources permit. It is also a giant piece of participatory art community. How, then, we left the author and the street without anyone compromising

Well, the answer is no. There are victims, who sit in the cultural industries business. The first is the training and validation. I left school without qualifications and at the same time finally came to art school graduate still technically. But he always kept me hungry to go. I feel great empathy for young people who can not afford college right now, but I want to share with them the many other ways to do extraordinary things. Of course money helps, but without wanting to sound simplistic, where there is a will there is a way.

Why work
Landguard Point? Well, one reason is that we have built trust. Over a period of two years, we found groups of supporters, local authorities, regional businesses and key people through youth and social services and are invited to participate. Thanks to its context of London 2012, The Landguard Point is a way to feel involved in something much larger, enhanced by the involvement of participants known as Michael Nyman, who wrote the soundtrack that made the project. The work itself is to create a shared space for people to take part to excel in what they do best, the cheerleaders, marching bands, folk singers, or the many people who have contributed on a voluntary basis.
